Abstract

EVIDENCE-BASED ANSWER

The utility of fetal kick counts in predicting fetal wellbeing remains unclear. Fetal kick counting does not alter rates of Cesarean section, neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) admissions, or low Apgar scores compared with standard care; however, they may increase antenatal hospital admissions and identification of growthrestricted fetuses. Once-daily counting results in better compliance than other methods, without increasing the rate of Cesarean section (SOR: B, based on a systematic review and 1 prospective cohort study).
