Abstract

EVIDENCE-BASED ANSWER

Pulmonary rehabilitation improves health-related quality of life in patients with stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and in patients with recent COPD exacerbations. Furthermore, pulmonary rehabilitation following an exacerbation significantly reduces hospital readmissions (number needed to treat [NNT]=4) and overall mortality (NNT=6) (SOR: A, metaanalyses of RCTs).
