EVIDENCE-BASED ANSWER

Alcohol reduction efforts result in only a small decrease (average 3 mmHg systolic and 2 mmHg diastolic) in blood pressure (SOR: A, systematic review of RCTs.) However, moderate to heavy alcohol consumption is associated with an increased risk of hypertension (SOR: B, metaanalysis of cohort studies).
