Kathleen has had a long history as a midwife and an academic. She is Professor of Midwifery at Southern Cross University where she is the Head of Discipline of Midwifery and is active in research and research supervision. Kathleen continues to practise as a midwife on a casual basis. She is a feminist researcher who works with both quantitative and qualitative methods. She has previously critiqued two Cochrane Reviews: one on home-like settings for birth and the other on the active management of the third stage of labour.
