Abstract

Evidence-Based AnswerThe administration of varicella vaccine to children within 3 days of contact with a household member with varicella reduces the rate of infection and the severity of subsequent disease (SOR: A, systematic review). Some protection may be seen with vaccination as late as 5 days after contact (SOR: B, prospective cohort). No RCTs with adolescents or adults were identified.
