Abstract

Although the domesticated sunflower is included in the work of Francisco Hernández on Mexico and has been reported archaeologically from Mexico, there is no evidence that this sunflower was present in Mexico in prehistoric or early historical times. The sunflower probably first reached Europe from what is now the southeastern United States.
