Abstract

Relative contributions of diabatic and adiabatic channels to photoisomerization and photocyclization processes were measured for stilbene, 1-phenyl-2-(2-naphthyl)ethylene (Ph-2N), 1,2-di-(1-naphthyl)ethylene (1N-1N), 1-(1-naphthyl)-2-(2-naphthyl)ethylene (1N-2N), and 1,2-di-(2-naphthyl)ethylene (2N-2N) by the steady-state spectrophotometric method in solutions at room temperature. The effects of solvent nature and atmospheric oxygen on the quantum yields of these processes in 1N-1N and 2N-2N were studied.
