The Courage to Sit: One Resident's Reflections on the Psychiatry Training Process

With my final year of residency nearly completed, I have been trying to understand how 3 years of psychiatry training has changed the way I treat patients. Although I have benefited from reading other psychiatrists' accounts of their training12 and their learning to do psychotherapy3, I want to figure out what I now do differently when I sit with patients and how these changes have occurred. I am also curious about why I sometimes feel totally exhausted in what is supposedly a “lifestyle” specialty.
