Abstract

Purpose

The aim of the study was to assess the efficacy and safety of pentadafil taken before sexual activity in young Egyptian male patients with erectile dysfunction.

Patients and methods

Sixty-six patients with erectile dysfunction were included in a randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled, multicenter study. They received a dose of 20 mg of pentadafil (or corresponding placebo) in a double-blinded manner. Changes in the International Index of Erectile Function score, sexual encounter profile, and responses to Global Assessment Questionnaire, which allow patients to record changes in their erectile function, were evaluated at baseline and after 12 weeks at the end of the study.

Results

The mean change in the International Index of Erectile Function score from baseline was higher in the pentadafil arm compared with the placebo arm. Successful penile penetration, maintenance of erection for intercourse completion, satisfaction with erection, and overall satisfaction with sexual experience were higher in the pentadafil arm compared with the placebo arm. Also, improvements in erections and in the ability to have sexual intercourse were higher in the pentadafil arm compared with the placebo arm.

Conclusion

Pentadafil is an effective and safe medication for treatment of erectile dysfunction.
