Abstract

Although Romania reported 693 cases of cholera to the World Health Organization between 1990 and 1995, no others were registered until 2009. This report presents the case of a patient with imported cholera (Vibrio cholerae serogroup O1, serotype Ogawa) acquired during a voyage to Northern India. Our major goal was to increase the awareness among health care professionals from nonendemic cholera areas about this severe infectious disease that may be easily misdiagnosed. At the same time, we highlight the importance of a detailed travel history in establishing the correct diagnosis.
