Abstract

The characteristics of a commercially produced ФД-311Л avalanche photodiode are studied. The receiver, which features thermoelectric cooling of the avalanche photodiode, is designed to receive the 2-Mbit/s laser communication signals of a geostationary satellite with an 8-MHz bandwidth of the electronic signal and a 0.15-nW threshold sensitivity. These parameters correspond to the requirements for the reception of a laser communication signal if an optical system with an aperture 0.7 m in diameter is used.
