Abstract

Clinical benefit is seen in patients with mild hypertension who are given any 1 of 5 antihypertensive medications in addition to modifying their lifestyle. This finding comes from the Treatment of Mild Hypertension Study (TOMHS) which has provided a wealth of information to clinicians perplexed by the variety of treatment options available. The implications of the study were discussed at the 66th Scientific Sessions of the American Heart Association held in Atlanta, US, in November.
