Abstract

Both the effective spontaneous reporting of adverse drug reactions (ADRs) and the rapid identification and investigation of possible drug safety hazards (signals) are vital to effective pharmacovigilance. A number of presentations at the 14th International Conference of Pharmacoepidemiology [Berlin, Germany; August 1998] looked at new ways of improving signal generation procedures and enhanced methods for optimising the collection of spontaneous reports in the UK.
