Abstract

The clinical problem of improving blood circulation in pathological veins has been examined by researchers in Vienna, Austria. Their primary intention was to investigate whether venotonic drugs could improve stasis in patients with varicose veins and post-thrombotic syndrome. The results of several studies using dihydroergotamine (DHE), a clinically effective ‘model’ venotonic drug, were presented at the World Congress of Phlebology [Sydney, Australia; September 1998].
