Abstract

101 male and 135 female undergraduates were administered the Mosher Forced Choice Guilt Inventory (MFCGI), which consists of subscales measuring Sex Guilt, Hostility Guilt, and Morality-Conscience Guilt; Byrne's Repression-Sensitization Scale, the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory; the California F Scale; the Marlowe-Crowne Social Desirability Scale; and the Adult Nowicki-Strickland Locus of Control Scale. Inspection of correlations and principal component solutions for each sex indicated that guilt emerged as a construct separate from anxiety or authoritarianism. The applicability of the male form of the MFCGI for use with females is discussed. (2 ref) (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)
