Validity of student evaluations of instructional effectiveness: A comparison of faculty self-evaluations and evaluations by their students

Considerable student-faculty agreement was found when 83 college courses were evaluated. Separate factor analyses indicated similar dimensions in both student and faculty evaluations. Validity coefficients were significant for all evaluation factors. Mean differences between student and faculty ratings were small, and the 2 groups agreed upon the behaviors most descriptive of the faculty.
