Abstract

Substance abuse among adolescents requires early intervention and proper treatment. Although substance use among this age group is considerable, the population of adolescents identified as having a substance use problem is significantly lower. Recent attention has focused on the use of adult substance abuse performance measures for quality improvement in this area. This article discusses the importance of performance measures for adolescent substance abuse treatment, the measurement tools now being developed, and implications for future treatment.
