Abstract

Objective:

Study on variations vascular endothelial health status in hypertensive patients between age 40–65 years using non invasive PPG signal taken via finger tip.

Design and Method:

Diagnosed patients with well controlled isolated hypertension (ie. Non diabetic, non dyslipidaemic, non ischaemic heart disease) who are on regular antihypertensive treatment between age 40–65 years were selected from NHSL (National hospital of Sri Lanka) and Sri Jayawardanapura hospital. They were interviewed and their blood flow was recorded using PPG signal for 5 minute duration connecting the probe to the index finger. Standard indices of wave forms were calculated during data analysis.

Results:

Calculated standard indices of pulse wave form showed significant difference in several indices such as SI (Stiffness index), PPGVLF (photoplethysmographic very low frequency), PPGi (photoplethysmographic index) between isolated hypertensive patients and non hypertensive (non diabetic, non dyslipidaemic, non ischaemic heart disease) patients in same age group and same gender.

Conclusions:

Calculated indices of PPG signal showed significant difference between well controlled isolated hypertensive patients who are on regular antihypertensive treatment compared to non hypertensive patients in 40–65 year age range in same gender.
