Abstract

Medial scapular winging is a rare finding associated with a long thoracic nerve injury, often due to trauma or iatrogenic causes. Failure to recognize the condition delays referral to essential supportive services during nonoperative monitoring periods, and delays time to repair or reconstruction with operative cases. A careful history and physical examination can aid in detection and diagnosis.
