Abstract

A project to deliver effective mandatory training on safeguarding children to a team of nurses in an acute psychiatric inpatient unit has delivered benefits. Safeguarding children practice on the unit has improved, as evidenced by increased information sharing and consideration of risks for the children of service users. Support on the unit for the skills learnt has improved due to the work of safeguarding children champions and regular reflective sessions. The support appears to have increased confidence and a consequent increase in safeguarding children activity on the unit.
