Abstract

For the past 50 years, Kyushu University has conducted cohort studies in Hisayama, a town of 8,400 people near Fukuoka city, to investigate the causes and mechanisms of stroke and other diseases. The results are scientifically valuable, and the townspeople gain health benefits from allowing research teams to track their health until the end of their lives.
