Abstract

Conserving biological diversity is a key principle underlying sustainable development; yet accurately measuring biodiversity loss to assist conservation efforts remains a significant challenge. Through the newly established Global Center of Excellence (GCOE) for Asian Conservation Ecology, Kyushu University is pursuing research aimed at quantifying, understanding and slowing biodiversity loss in the rapidly developing countries of Southeast Asia.
