Abstract

When considering a testing protocol, the basic attributes of test characteristics must be examined. These are validity (the ability of the test to measure what it purports to measure), reliability (the consistency of measurement), and practicality (ease of administration, interpretation, scoring, and cost). An analysis of each attribute is presented and the concept of correlation is discussed briefly. Relevant nursing examples are used throughout.
