Abstract

A clinical experience in a day care center can provide students with the opportunity to learn and apply principles of illness prevention and health maintenance. As part of a primary preventive intervention course, our baccalaureate students assess the day care center and the children in it; plan and implement a health teaching project; and evaluate their interventions. Throughout the experience they apply the nursing process to meet specific learning objectives. Faculty evaluate fulfillment of course goals through weekly logs, observation, and a formal paper.
