Abstract

Synopsis:Some patients with herpes simplex encephalitis develop autoantibodies against N-methyl-Daspartate receptors. Sera from these patients cause a downregulation of neuronal synaptic markers in vitro, suggesting a potential pathogenic disease-modifying effect.
