Family Action is a charity that helps more than 45,000 vulnerable families and children across England a year by offering emotional, practical and financial support.

A pilot of a perinatal support project in Southwark, London was found to reduce mental health problems in vulnerable women and is now being extended. Such schemes complement the work of health visitors and other health professionals. Commissioners need to be aware of the long-term impact of such low-cost interventions in the early years.
