An acute trust has taken economic and simple measures to eliminate device-related pressure ulcers

Nursing Times; online issue 13: 7-9.

Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has implemented an initiative aimed at eliminating device-related pressure ulcers. One of the measures implemented is a red band that is wrapped around the top and bottom of a patient's plaster cast, which flags up to staff that the patient is at high risk of developing a pressure ulcer and therefore needs specific care. Improved communication around device-related pressure ulcers is at the heart of the initiative, which the trust plans to roll out to the community setting. This article describes the initiative and what has been achieved so far.
