Should nurses be expected to be role models for healthy lifestyles? Although this expectation is often expressed in policy documents and professional journals, there is little research on whether it is reasonable and realistic. This article discusses the related arguments and reports on a study on the issue conducted with six stakeholder groups, which found there is no agreement on whether nurses should be expected to be healthy role models, and that a more considered approach to improving nurses' lifestyles is needed.
