Research has shown that about 10% to 15% of monochorionic-diamniotic pregnancies are complicated by the twin-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS). TTTS arises because of the unbalanced transfer of fluid and vasoactive mediators from 1 twin to the other via placental anastomoses.
