(BJOG 2017;124:1717)The article by Kim et al has found obesity, in the absence of chronic disease, to be associated with preterm birth. Of interest was the association between obesity and extremely preterm birth (birth at <28 wk gestation), both spontaneous and indicated, in nulliparous women. Extremely preterm birth is associated with neonatal morbidity and mortality. Providers should attempt to identify women at risk of preterm birth, such as overweight and obese women, and work to modify these risk factors.
