Abstract

(Abstracted from BMJ 2017;359:j4471)

Epidural analgesia is the most effective and preferred form of pain relief in labor; however, it can lead to the prolongation of the second stage of labor and also increase the risk of instrumental vaginal delivery. Maternal position during the second stage of labor could also affect the risk of instrumental vaginal delivery.
