Abstract

Rosemary Cook, Dave Dawes and Agnes Fanning describe an intensive course that ensures nurses develop entrepreneurial skills

Nurse First is a professional development programme for community health practitioners eager to take on roles as social entrepreneurs and innovators. It is being run by the Queen's Nursing Institute, Bucks New University and the Shaftesbury Partnership to give nurses the leadership and business skills they need to develop projects successfully. The first course started in September 2011 and it will lead them to a postgraduate diploma in social innovation, the first one in the UK.
