Abstract

Point-of-care testing is a clinical laboratory testing conducted close to the site of patient care. The ability to make medical decisions based on the results of laboratory testing in front of the patient has a history that dates back centuries to the tasting of urine in order to detect diabetes and the presence of sugar in urine. Modern devices have improved significantly, but still pose limitations in automation, information management, portability, and menu. This manuscript reviews current and future health care trends and makes predictions for point-of-care testing development in wireless information management and technologic advances.
