Abstract

Explores 3 areas of concern about assessment: (a) ethics of testing, (b) present usefulness of psychological testing, and (c) new ways in which testing can be used in clinical settings. Despite problems with validity levels, ethical concerns, and abuses of tests, they have wide clinical usefulness for properly trained psychologists who are aware of tests' limitations. Further development through research and experimentation is needed rather than abandonment of testing as a tool. (17 ref) (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)
