Professional psychology has been undergoing enormous changes and challenges in recent years. Trainees (i.e., predoctoral interns and postdoctoral fellows) about to embark on careers are often pessimistic about job prospects and worried about their ability to find suitable employment opportunities with suitable salaries. Many lament that the type of careers they once envisioned may no longer exist. Furthermore, many trainees possess little knowledge about how to go about finding work. The purpose of this article is to discuss job-searching strategies and to give pointers on how to prepare a curriculum vitae, prepare for an interview, and negotiate salaries and benefits.
