Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1978, Vol 23(10), 733–734. Reviews the book, Attention and Performance VI: Proceedings of the Sixth International Symposium on Attention and Performance, Stockholm, Sweden, July 28-August I, 1975 edited by Stanislav Dornic (see record 1979-05338-000). This volume represents the record of the Sixth International Symposium on Attention and Performance held in Stockholm, Sweden, July 29-August 1, 1975. The first six symposia were held without the benefit of a formal organization. Succeeding symposia will be held under the sponsorship of the International Association for the Study of Attention and Performance. A related guiding principle is the role of the speed-accuracy tradeoff in the interpretation of experiments in human performance. Previous papers in this series warned albout the uncritical acceptance of reaction time and of accuracy descriptors alone as a basis for modelling human performance.
