Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1978, Vol 23(10), 773–774. Reviews the book, Behavior Modification of the Mentally Retarded. 2nd ed edited by Travis Thompson and John Grabowski (1977). This book edited by Thompson and Grabowski, is a revised edition of a 1970 book by the same authors. They present the principles of behavior modification, the behavior of residents, and the conditions of the institution with realism and insight. Since the 1970 book, the editors have added chapters on language training, sheltered workshops, ethical issues, punishment, and issues in implementing a behavior modification program.
