Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1978, Vol 23(11), 852–853. Reviews the book, Social Development in Childhood: Day-Care Programs and Research edited by Roger A. Webb (1977). This book accurately reflects the state of the art in our understanding of techniques for studying the social development of children, and our conceptualizations about such development. It demonstrates that we are still at a rather primitive stage. This volume is worth reading by those particularly interested in applied research. The editor's introduction provides a good background for reading the volume, and it is a worthwhile collection. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)
