Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1978, Vol 23(11), 869–870. Reviews the book, The Psychoanalytic Study of the Child, Vol. 32 edited by Ruth S. Eissler, Anna Freud, Marianne Kris, Peter B. Neubauer, and Albert J. Solnit (1977). This volume presents its readers with important contributions to theory, problems of development, clinical practice, and education, as seen from the psychoanalytic point of view. There are several interesting papers on problems of development. Frankel and Sherick discuss the normal development of envy in young children. Two essays discuss the contributions that a psychoanalytic point of view may make in educational settings. Overall, this issue will provide stimulating reading for all dynamically oriented psychologists. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)
