Abstract

Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1978, Vol 23(11), 879–881. Reviews the book, The Social Psychology of Bargaining by Ian E. Morley and Geoffrey M. Stephenson (1977). This book is based on a series of studies conducted by Morley and Stephenson over a five-year period. As such, it has a personalized feeling wherein the reader can follow the evolution of thought and research in a program of studies that appears to have both anticipated and fortuitous outcomes. Yet, paradoxically, the volume has potentially wide appeal because the issues faced by the authors are important and their methods and tentative resolutions appear quite useful to those investigating bargaining in intergroup negotiation contexts.
