Abstract

Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1978, Vol 23(11), 897–898. Reviews the book, Program Evaluation for Mental Health: Methods, Strategies, and Participants edited by Robert D. Coursey, Gerry A. Specter, Stanley A. Murrell, and Barbara Hunt (1977). The editors have written and compiled a down-to-earth, practical guide that can lead a novice evaluator through the maze of evaluation techniques and still expand the expertise of the experienced evaluator. Without devaluing program evaluation as a legitimate endeavor for the academician, the editors have assembled a very useful applied manual for practitioners in the mental health delivery system. In sum, the editors have admirably achieved their purpose of creating a program evaluation handbook for the real-life mental health professional.
