Abstract

Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1978, Vol 23(11), 919–920. Reviews the books, Groups: Process and Practice by Gerald Corey and Marianne Schneider Corey (1977) and Group Process for the Health Professions by Edward E. Sampson and Marya Sampson Marthas (1977). The Sampson and Marthas book was intended to heighten the sensitivity of various health professionals about the nature of interaction with each other and with patients and to show how the concepts of social psychology enter into the various contexts in the hospital. The authors further strove to combine practical guidelines with conceptual understanding. The Corey and Corey book is also intended as a text-this time for future practitioners of group counseling and therapy groups. It covers a wide array of topics divided into two major sections–namely, basic issues and concepts in group process and specialized groups.
