Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1978, Vol 23(11), 935–936. Reviews the book, The ESP Experience: A Psychiatric Validation by Jan Ehrenwald (1978). This book contains a smattering of psychoanalytic theory and a bit of history relative to witchcraft. It is pleasant reading. If one is to take seriously the blurbs on the dust jacket, this book represents a “major milestone” in metapsychiatry. And indeed, it has the form acceptable for a scholarly work, a bibliography of 289 items, and more than 400 references in the text. The gamut is very wide, from Freud to Bertrand Russell, from R. D. Laing to Percy Bridgeman. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)
