Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1978, Vol 23(11), 968. Reviews the book, Topics in cognitive development, Vol 1. Equilibration: Theory, research, and application edited by Marilyn H. Appel and Lois S. Goldberg (1977). This volume is an edited collection of papers presented at the first and second annual meetings of the Jean Piaget Society in Philadelphia, 1971 and 1972, with slight revisions and extensions to suit the purposes of the book. The quality of the individual papers is generally high, but they are terribly “dated” and add little that is new to either the literature on cognitive development or the theoretical understanding of the concept equilibration. This is its principal shortcoming. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)
