Abstract

Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1978, Vol 23(11), 973. Reviews the book, Time off: A psychological guide to vacations by Stephen A. Shapiro and Alan J. Tuckman (see record 1979-21169-000). The lesson to be learned from consulting this potboiler is that (a) relative to comparable members of its genre, it isn't bad and (b) it wasn't written by psychologists. Registered psychologists, who are busily trying to make a fast buck with allegedly fortifying gruel for the masses, evidently have strong competition from persons whose qualifications for doing so are equally dubious.
