Abstract

Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1978, Vol 23(12), 1018. Reviews the book, Just this side of madness: Creativity and the drive to create by Carol Ann Morizot (see record 1979-33712-000). One purpose of this book is to raise our level of consciousness about the nature and care of artists. Even so, the dramatic language, the italics, personal references, and repeated use of words such as “incredible,” “constantly,” and “ad infinitim” are annoying. That the main concepts are fuzzy is to be expected, because the relationship between creativity and psychological disorder is complex and not well understood. Despite its defects, the book is serious, interesting, and based on ideas worthy of public attention. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)
