Abstract

Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1979, Vol 24(1), 45–46. Reviews the book, Regression Analysis by Example by Samprit Chatterjee and Bertram Price (1977). The authors attempted to select a novel approach and to define or address a particular audience. The central themes of this book are that it addresses itself to the user of statistics–and where they kept that in mind, the authors did admirably well–and that it tries to introduce each topic by one or a few examples. Where the authors stayed in their own field of expertise, applied elementary statistics, they produced an outstanding text. The topics discussed in this textbook can be easily handled by hand calculators, and a few simple FORTRAN programs that any user of computers should be able to write.
