Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1979, Vol 24(1), 69–70. Reviews the book, The Alcoholic Marriage: Alternative Perspectives by Thomas J. Paolino, Jr., and Barbara S. McCrady (see record 1979-31204-000). The authors' stated purposes in designing this text on alcoholic marriages are to describe different theoretical and scientific perspectives, provide a choice of intervention models for clinicians, discuss different ways in which other forms of abnormal and normal behavior can be conceptualized. The discussions of various theoretical models for intervention are comprehensive, and written in an informal style that should facilitate understanding of complex theoretical concepts. Their discussion of research should be useful to clinicians, but lacks the systematic analysis of research design and methodology. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)
