Abstract

Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1979, Vol 24(1), 74. Reviews the book, Psychiatric diagnosis: Exploration of biological predictors edited by Hagop S. Akiskal and William L. Webb (1978). Contributors to this volume have dealt with those areas of biological research that have the potential for clinical use in psychiatric diagnosis. The book proceeds from conceptual and clinical considerations to more empirically based chapters and deals with such topics as genetic and familial indices of psychopathology, and biochemical and pharmacological response patterns, and concludes with a section on psychophysiological adaptation on an organismic level.
