Abstract

Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1979, Vol 24(1), 80. Reviews the book, Explaining crime 2nd ed by Gwynn Nettler (1978). This, is a thoroughly revised, expanded, and updated second edition of Nettler's 1974 textbook dealing with the facts and theories about the causes of crime. All of the philosophical and empirical problems of defining and counting crimes are dealt with in a clear and unemotional manner. Nettler is an outstanding expert in the field and the book is clearly written with dashes of the wry humor that characterized the first edition.
